Independent American for Nevada Secretary of State

Restoring Trust, Security, and Fairness in Our Elections
As Nevada’s chief elections officer, I will work across party lines to ensure every eligible vote is counted accurately and securely—without barriers that disenfranchise or loopholes that erode confidence. No more yelling; just practical solutions that unite Nevadans around elections we can all trust.
Take Action to Support Secure Elections:
- Check and update your voter registration at vote.nv.gov.
- Stay informed on upcoming reforms, including smooth Voter ID rollout if Question 7 is approved again this November (after strong bipartisan support in 2024).
- Join me in building consensus for transparent, accessible elections that protect integrity while ensuring no eligible Nevadan is left out.

Independent Politics
Brad Lee Barnhill has always been involved in independent politics. He worked on John B. Anderson’s campaign in 1980. He was part of the founding organization of the Virginia Independent Party in 1990. In 1992, he worked on Marshall Coleman’s gubernatorial independent campaign, which catapulted the Virginia Independent Party to major party status. Brad has been Chairman of the Clark County Central Committee of the Independent American Party of Nevada, and Vice-Chairman of the State IAP. Brad has been on the ballot in Nevada several times for the NV IAP since moving to the valley in 2002.
Growing Up as a Military Brat
Brad’s father was a USMC lifer. Dad joined the Corps when he was 16, was deployed twice to Korea, and five times to Viet Nam. Dad was awarded Three Purple Hearts. Brad grew up on military bases and was instilled with love for his country and duty to his nation.
Educational Background
Brad graduated from Marine Corps Base Quantico High School in 1974, third in his class. Brad attended the University of Virginia from 1974-1976 and 1979-1981. First a physics major, but loving the math, transferred to the Engineering School into Applied Math. When a Computer Science department opened up, Brad transferred to that department. Brad graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. His undergraduate thesis was in artificial intelligence.

Professional Careers
Brad’s pursued a professional career as a systems analyst, working as a contractor for US EPA, USPS, for a division of Lexis Nexis, and for an offshore oil development company. The next step in his career was as litigation paralegal in personal injury, contracts, employment claims, civil rights, and criminal law. Brad’s experience in consulting means he knows how to listen and build consensus solutions. Brad’s experience in the law means he knows how to read (and draft) a statute and the effect of the word in the law on the people
Brad’s Assessment of the Current State of Politics
Divisive partisan politics has infected the democrat and republican parties in Nevada for nearly a generation. It is time for a fresh approach and a consensus government where people work together to ensure the future of the citizens of Nevada. People who yell at each other can’t hear what the other person is saying. It’s time for civil debate on issues that affect Nevadans.
My Vision for Nevada Elections
With my background in computer science and systems analysis, I understand the importance of secure, reliable technology in elections. Combined with my legal experience drafting and interpreting statutes, I’ll ensure upgrades—like verifiable paper ballots and enhanced cybersecurity—reach every county fairly. My independent history means I’ll listen to all sides, implement reforms transparently, and prioritize civil, fact-based solutions over partisan fights. Together, we can have elections that strengthen our republic and protect every Nevadan’s freedom to vote.
